One of his most notable achievements while still a freshman at Youngstown State University, in Ohio, was his acceptance in the prestigious mid-year show at Butler Institute of American Art. (One of the top 5 museum shows in the country). After graduation, Ralph taught advanced courses in commercial art and advertising design, and reorganized the university's commercial art curriculum.

In 1973 Ralph opened an advertising agency in Ohio and won awards in design and layout. After moving to Hilton Head Island, South Carolina in 1979 with his wife Linda, Ralph continued working in graphic art & design. He worked in many different areas using a wide variety of styles and techniques, including: magazine illustration, logo design, cartooning, and storyboards. After his daughter Kristen was born in 1989, Ralph developed his 3-D art technique.
